Love in all the right places: Where to celebrate Gay Pride 2018

An ocean of rainbow flags, fun-loving crowds and party starting parades, the UK events calendar just wouldn’t be complete without Gay Pride! It’s the UK’s biggest festival dedicated to LGBTQ+ equality and diversity and if you’re wondering how to celebrate such a fabulous cause, here are our top 5 ideas…

London

  • Party in the capital

When: Saturday 9th June – Saturday 7th July

In recent years, our capital city has hosted some of the biggest Pride events in the country and 2018 is no exception. The one you need to be present for? The float-tastic, rainbow flag-filled Pride Parade, where you can celebrate London’s cultural diversity with its wonderful LGBTQ+ community.

Or if you want to ramp up the excitement a notch, get a front row seat for Pride Boxing, which returns after a knock-out debut event last year.

Birmingham

  • Party all Bank Holiday weekend long

    When: Saturday 26th – Sunday 27th May

Cheers to the spring bank holiday weekend, which is when Birmingham Pride falls! At this epic two day pride party, you can enjoy performances from the most diverse lineup yet, including the likes of Jax Jones, Louisa Johnson, Beth Ditto, Gorgon City and Celebrity Big Brother winner, Courtney Act.

This year’s theme is simply, #BeYou – so whether that means donning your fave garments or ramping it up with rainbow glitter and neon confetti – go wild and have fun!

Brighton and Hove

  • Sing ‘Oh baby, baby…’

    When: Friday 3rd – Sunday 5th August

Brighton Pride Festival is going down in history, because this year’s headlining act is… Britney Spears! The pop megastar will perform Toxic, Womanizer and all your favourites in the very first show of her ‘Piece of Me’ world tour.

Added to the mix is a brand new family festival, LoveBN1 Fest at Preston Park, as well as the spellbinding Pride Parade, Pride Dog Show and much more.

Manchester

  • Enjoy an event-packed Pride

    When: Friday 24th – Monday 27th August

Fantastically flamboyant and split into four epic events – it’s Manchester’s award-winning Pride Festival! First on your list? The Big Weekend, where you can dance away those long summer days to the sounds of Sigala, Rita Ora and a whole range of other big name acts who are kicking off the celebrations. Then roll up, roll up for Pride Parade, which is pulling all the stops with its theme ‘The Circus of Acceptance’.

At The Candlelit Vigil, you can pay tribute and remember those lost to the HIV virus, while you trying out the new free mini-festival, The Superbia Weekend.

Newcastle

  • Celebrate 40 years of the rainbow flag

    When: Friday 20th – Saturday 21st July

It’s taken the North East’s LGBTQ+ community by storm and Newcastle Pride is even bigger than ever, having moved to the bigger site of Nuns Moor Park. This year’s theme will be 40 Years of Rainbow, as we celebrate 40 years since Gilbert Baker designed the rainbow flag and it was first used at San Francisco Pride in 1978.

But – who says you have to wait until the parade to start partying? If you love all things pop then be sure to have an all singing, all dancing night out at Newcastle Pride Launch Party, where The Vengaboys will be performing! Uber cheesy and the best kind of fun, don’t miss their hit singles including We Like to Party, Boom Boom Boom Boom, and We’re Going to Ibiza.
