Let’s hear it for the mums: 7 places to spend Mother’s Day

From an indulgent New York themed afternoon tea to a super nostalgic Winnie-the-Pooh exhibition, here’s how to treat the queen in your life this Mother’s Day (11th March – don’t forget!).

  • Go museum mad

Where: The Victoria and Albert Museum

If your Mum loves a spot of culture, then The Victoria and Albert Museum will be right up her street. Have a mooch and you will discover paintings, jewellery, textiles and ceramics spanning several centuries. Plus, for just £8 each you can relive those childhood memories and explore the wonderful world of Winnie-the-Pooh in a special exhibition.

  • Bee happy outdoors

Where: The Hive at Kew Gardens

Does your mum love nature and architecture? Then this Mother’s Day, make a beeline for The Hive at Kew Gardens. Set in a wild flower meadow, Wolfgang Buttress’s award-winning 17-metre high, 40-tonne installation is essentially alive as it has thousands of LED lights that flicker as an orchestral arrangement plays in time to the activity of bees in a nearby hive. Pretty cool, don’t you think?

  • Have afternoon tea with an American twist

Where: NYL Restaurant & Bar, 1 North John St, Liverpool

The big apple may seem like a million miles away, but you don’t have to cross the pond to enjoy NYL’s New York themed afternoon tea. Just hop on the coach to Liverpool and you and mum could soon be devouring apple pie doughnuts rolled in cinnamon sugar *drools*, as well as your afternoon tea classics like scones with clotted cream and jam. Yay!

  • Make a song and dance of it

    Where: Electric Cinema

Good news for musical mad mums. This Mother’s Day, you two can plonk yourselves on a comfy sofa and enjoy a sing-a-long screening of The Greatest Showman at Birmingham’s Electric Cinema. A dazzling feel good tale and quality time with the leading lady in your life – what more could you want?

  • Smell the roses

    Where: Birmingham Botanical Gardens

Perfect for the arrival of spring, why not take Mum to see flowers in bloom at Birmingham Botanical Gardens? After soaking up the sights of four stunning glasshouses and the beautiful gardens, pop into the Pavilion Tea Room for a light snack or hearty lunch.

  • Cruise along the River Avon

    Where: Central Bath

If you want to take in Bath’s beautiful sights away from the crowds, then sit back and relax on a River Cruise. As you glide along the River Avon, you’ll pass landmarks like Pulteney Bridge, St. Johns Church and Pulteney Bridge Weir, all while enjoying entertaining live commentary from your knowledgeable skipper.

  • Indulge in a spa day

Where: The Cornwall Hotel & Estate

For a pamper day fit for a queen, whisk your Mum away to Cornwall, where the sea air will relax her mind and a massage will relax her soul. A day pass at The Cornwall Spa starts at £20 and gives you use of all facilities including a spectacular infinity pool, aroma steam room and state-of-the-art fitness studio.
