From sparkly boots and giant Santa’s that sing and dance to engagement rings, mobility scooters, charity donations and trips on the Orient Express, our National Expressmas elves are delighted to say that they have made a lot of dreams come true this year. And we couldn’t be prouder of doing so, because at the end of the day, isn’t that what the festive season is all about?
How did we know what people wanted, you ask? Well simple, we asked them. Anyone could enter, and all they had to do was tell us their ultimate Christmas wish, and why they wanted it. After checking through the National Express ‘nice list’ and checking through it a good few times again, our elves set to work sourcing the gifts, decorating the coach and delivering the presents to the lucky winners…
A little bit about our wonderful winners…
Now, as you may have guessed, there were a lot of winners, but there were a few that really touched our hearts here at National Express. First up was Audrey. All she wanted was a mobility scooter – something that could help her get out and about independently without having to rely on anyone else. A keen birdwatcher, she really missed being able to go out and take photos at her leisure. So as you can imagine, there was no way we couldn’t grant her wish. Over the moon with her new mode of transport, we can’t wait to see some of her wonderful bird pictures.
Dawn – another one of our winners, wanted a special way to remember her late husband, Denis. Having sadly passed away from cancer in 2015, Dawn’s biggest wish was to have a star named after Denis so that her and her children could look-up and know he was shining down on them. More than happy to provide such a gift, our thoughts and prayers and with Dawn and her family this Christmas.
Michelle’s daughter, Kelsey, has cerebral palsy and finds walking hard. On 13th December, she had her legs operated on and with a six week recovery period, Christmas was going to be very different for the family this year. That’s why this year, Michelle wanted to make Christmas extra special for Kelsey and wondered if our elves could provide her with a tricycle so that, despite being poorly, she had something to help her achieve a sense of independence.
And finally, Linda’s daughter – Sophie had spent most 2016 on the Teenage Cancer Ward at St James Hospital in Leeds, fighting an aggressive cancer. Despite this, she still managed to fundraise a whopping £14,000 for the Teenage Cancer Trust throughout the year. With, fingers crossed, a good prognosis ahead, Linda wanted to light up Sophie’s Christmas with a surprise trip to London to see a West End Show. And after all the fundraising Sophie had done for the Teenage Cancer trust there is no way we could say no which is why we’re sending Sophie and her family to go see the Olivier award-winning musical, Kinky Boots.
Of course, there were lots and lots of winners, each and every one of them truly deserving of a Christmas filled with a little bit of magic, and it was truly amazing to be able to meet so many of our lovely customers whilst ticking off some of their most longed for gifts. It looks as though dreams really can come true.
A big thank you to everyone who entered our competition and congratulations again to our chosen winners! From everyone at National Express, we hope you all have a Merry Christmas and hope to see you soon in the New Year!
